This is 40 Movie Review

  The reigning king of comedy, Judd Apatow,

has in latest endeavor, made a grown-up movie 

filled with less sophomoric humor and more about

adult relationships, family, and careers.

  Expecting the typical situation-slapstick comedy of

an Apatow film, one soon realizes this is a film about

real life issues. In the past, Apatow movies were designed

mainly for laughs. This is 40, has a heart and mind that

undoubtedly resonates with anyone who has kids, the

ups and downs of a career, and the difficulty of maintaining

a romantic, successful marriage.

  Apatow has thrown in everything but the kitchen sink.

There are the in-laws, the challenges of raising children, who

are all now connected via smart phones, tablets, and the

like, as well as the highs and lows of pursuing one's dreams

and the unfortunate disappointments that all too often we 

all face.

   This is 40, has an excellent cast with stand-out performances

by Leslie Mann, Paul Rudd, and an especially funny cameo by

Melissa McCarthy.

This is 40 is an excellent reflection of the current times and finds

humor, like in real life, in the oddest places.
